Snowbird Shenanigans: Mazatlan St. Paddy’s Day Extravaganza (We Were Hours Behind Our Irish Friends!)

Here’s the funny part: while we were just getting our party started at 1 PM, we knew our dear Irish and English friends back in Sunny Beach, Bulgaria were probably already well into their post-celebratory naps! Thanks to the magic of time zones, our St. Patrick’s Day revelry was happening hours behind theirs. I couldn’t help but picture them, still sporting their green attire, while we were just warming up the pickleball court.

Despite the time difference, the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day was alive and well in Mazatlan. Let me tell you, wrangling 30 snowbirds for a party is no easy feat. But our amazing friends, Wendy and Adrienne, took the reins and transformed our usual gathering space into a festive wonderland. Think shamrocks galore, streamers of every shade of green, and enough Guinness memorabilia to make a pub owner jealous.

The festivities kicked off at 1 PM, and let me tell you, these retirees weren’t there to just sip tea! We had a fierce pickleball tournament (watch out, Wimbledon!), a rousing game of Mexican Train dominoes that could have rivaled a telenovela for drama, and a collection of board games that brought out everyone’s inner child (and a little competitive streak!).

As the afternoon wore on, the energy remained high. We shared stories, reminisced about past St. Patrick’s Day adventures (some a little more forgettable than others!), and reveled in the camaraderie that comes with being part of a vibrant expat community.

But the fun wasn’t just for us! We also had a special purpose for our gathering: raising money for the wonderful Mazatlan orphanage. Throughout the day, donations poured in, fueled by the spirit of giving and the promise of some delicious treats.
